Kally Billings clubbed a grand slam to help lead the Sandies varsity softball team past the Sinton Lady Pirates 14-2 last Tuesday at Calhoun High School. In the fifth inning, Billings hit her grand slam to center field.
Sinton got on the board in the top of the first inning after Kylee Smith walked, and Natalie Tijerina lined out, each scoring one run.
Calhoun scored one run in the bottom of the second on a solo home run to left field by Braylyn Galloway on a 3-0 count.
The Sandies took control in the bottom of the fourth, scoring six runs on two hits to take the lead, 7-2. A fielder’s choice by Ciara Mendez drove in two Sandies in the inning.
The Sandies scored seven runs on four hits in the bottom of the fifth. Mendez singled, scoring one run, Laynie Wood singled, scoring one run, Jocelyn Herrera drew a walk, scoring one run, and Billings clubbed a grand slam to center field.
Jordan Pena earned the win after the reliever surrendered two hits and zero runs over two innings, striking out one and walking one. Aubrey Martinez took the loss for Sinton. 
The pitcher went four and one-third innings, surrendering 14 runs (eight earned) on seven hits, striking out two and walking three. 
Ally Aguilar led things off in the circle for Calhoun. The starting pitcher surrendered two hits and two runs (zero earned) over two innings, striking out none and walking two. Kailey Treumer collected the save.
Veronica Zavala, Mendez, Alexis Gaona, Billings, Journee Boots, Galloway, and Wood each collected one hit for the Sandies.

JV Sandies stop Sinton
The JV Sandies were victorious against Sinton JV 8-3 last Tuesday.
The JV Sandies opened the scoring in the bottom of the first thanks to four singles. Calhoun first got on the board when V Zavala singled, scoring one run.
Four more Sandies runs crossed the plate in the third inning to extend the lead to 8-0. Zavala singled, scoring one run, and Jordynn Pena homered to center field, scoring three runs.
Pena earned the win after she gave up zero hits and zero runs over two innings, striking out three and walking one. Kailey Treumer pitched four innings in relief for the Sandies. 
The reliever surrendered three hits and three runs (zero earned) while, striking out five and walking one. 
Kylee Smith took the loss for Sinton JV after she went three and two-thirds innings, allowing eight runs (three earned) on seven hits, striking out three and walking none.
Pena and Zavala were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for Calhoun while hitting back-to-back. 
Pena drove the middle of the lineup, leading the Sandies with three runs batted in. The pitcher went 2-for-2 on the day.

Sandies JV tops R-F JV
Emery Williams collected three hits in three at bats, as the JV Sandies defeated the Rockport Pirates JV 12-8. Williams singled in the third inning, singled in the second inning, and singled in the fifth inning.
Calhoun jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after an error scored one run, Preslei Haden drew a walk, scoring one run, J Romero singled, scoring one run, and an error scored two runs.
The Sandies added to their early lead in the top of the second inning after Jocelyn Hererra hit a sacrifice fly, and Brileigh Wood walked, each scoring one run.
The Sandies scored five runs on three hits in the top of the third inning. Jacelyn Lopez doubled, scoring one run, Hererra drew a walk, scoring one run, and Williams singled, scoring three runs.
Wood earned the win after she surrendered nine hits and eight runs (five earned) over four innings, striking out three and walking one. 
The Pirates starter went three and two-thirds innings, allowing 12 runs (eight earned) on 11 hits, striking out one and walking seven.
The Sandies collected 11 hits in the game. Emma Dowell, Williams, and Hererra each drove in two runs. Lopez collected two hits for Calhoun in two at bats.
